Oil Cleansing

September 18th, 2009

People may find the concept of cleansing their face with oil counter-intuitive. Please take a few minutes to read how and why Oil Cleansing is the best method to help your skin look and feel great.

The Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) has been around for many years. If you research this approach to cleansing you will find a formula made from Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Castor Oil. Many testimonials speak of amazing results from using this simple formula. Check out this link at acne.org for a discussion of OCM and how it can help reduce acne. The chemistry behind OCM is simply that “likes dissolve likes”, hardly rocket science. Mimicking our skins own natural chemistry is the best way to cleanse it and keep it nourished and healthy.

At Under Your Skin we take Oil Cleansing one step further by utilizing carrier oils that are very similar to our skin’s own oils, and then add in essential oils that have properties which address bacteria, virus, fungus, red/brown spots, wrinkles, dry patches, oily patches, and a general dull complexion. In the future we will look in depth at these carrier and essential oils to help you understand why each was selected to address your individual skin care needs.

Follow these simple steps for proper Oil Cleansing to help your skin look great:

1. Rub several squirts of Soft Skin Oil Cleanser first in the palms of your hands and then onto a dry face and neck just as you would with soap or other cleansers.
2. Massage into your skin for about 1 minute (can be several minutes for stubborn blackheads if this is your skin type).
3. Rinse clean with a hot washcloth several times making sure to rinse the cloth multiple times to remove the dirty oil. Pat dry.

You will quickly notice an improvement in the look and feel of your skin. Both oily and dry skin sufferers alike will enjoy the benefits of Oil Cleansing. Continued use of Oil Cleansing improves other skin ailments such as rosacea, acne, red/brown spots, dull complexions and even dreaded wrinkles! We welcome your feedback and comments.

The Genesis of Under Your Skin

August 5th, 2009

What would prompt a 40’s something mother of three with a full time job to start a small business in Skin Care?

The short answer is because there is a need for affordable skin care products which provide results, not empty sales pitches with fancy words. Do I have a chip on my shoulder? I don’t think so, just a propensity to be the Righter of Wrongs (or a slight personality flaw as my husband might say).

This Righting of Wrong story began a few years ago when looking in the mirror I felt more and more like I belonged to the AARP crowd, even though I had been using an expensive wrinkle cream to relax the crow’s feet and the “eleven” on my aging face.

In an effort to combat Mother Nature, I visited the department store make-up counters and purchased the finest anti-wrinkle creams available. While they smelled nice, they did nothing for the appearance of my skin but certainly put a big dent in my wallet.

Still searching for results, I visited a dermatologist who prescribed a rosacea cream and recommended an even more expensive anti-wrinkle cream. I tried three rounds of these prescribed products and saw no results. With no results and lots of money spent, I was feeling wronged!

Left to my own devices, I googled “wrinkles” and a whole new world opened up to me. I skipped all the ads and found skin care forums and chat rooms filled with scientists, aestheticians, do it yourselfers and people just like me.

I read many similar stories, studied what people found was working and began to believe that there truly was a better way to approach my skin care needs. I purchased small quantities of different raw materials and created formulas for myself at a cost far below what I had paid for those “high end” products and prescriptions.

Before too long, friends began commenting on the improvement they saw in my skin. I told them my story and they begged to try my concoctions. It didn’t take long for me to realize I had found results that people could both see and feel and could be had for a fraction of the cost of the products that were so disappointing to me.

That is the story of how Under Your Skin came to be. Our company goals are simple: 1. Produce products that make a real difference in your appearance, because if they don’t work, that is wrong, 2. Keep our products as affordable as possible, because paying too much is wrong as well.

Please continue to follow our blog to learn about the raw materials we use and why they are so effective as well as what we don’t use in our products and why. We welcome your feedback and comments.
